WINTER/SPRING SHOW 2012

WINTER/SPRING SHOW 2012 - FEBRUARY 3RD & 4TH, 2012
WITH SPECIAL EXHIBIT
CHRISTIAN LACROIX: DARLING OF OUTRAGOUS EXCESS

Unapologetically dramatic, outrageously glamorous, Christian Lacroix elevated fashion to an art form.. His exuberant use of color and pattern, his love of sumptuous fabrics, his astonishing mix of influences, were like nothing the industry had seen.   No wonder Christian Lacroix is called “The Darling of Outrageous Excess.”

Lacroix’ design genius comes to New York’s premier vintage clothing shopping event – The Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show – as a special exhibit. This accompanies the 90 vintage clothing and antique textile vendors, February 3rd & 4th at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Recession weary consumers looking for a touch of color and class can find and purchase original designs by Lacroix. In the words of the designer “For me, fashion is expressing your own deep individuality." It is vintage’s ability to satisfy our longing for self-expression that has drawn so many shoppers – among them designers, celebrities and editors – to the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show.

Lacroix’s creations are opulent and dramatic, reflecting theatrical and historical influences. He employs sumptuous materials and multiple textures – satins, velvets, laces, embroidery and fur in silhouettes inspired by the traditional flouncy costumes of his own southwest of France. He uses unusual geometric patterns and mixes hot Mediterranean colors such as orange, scarlet, fuchsia and purple, while finishing his creations with thick embroidery, braid, beads and jewel trimmings. At the showing of his first collection, the clothes matched in theatrical thrust the music he chose for the occasion –Andalusian themes full of trumpet calls and assertive flair.

FALL SHOW 2011: OCTOBER 21 & 22

FALL SHOW 2011 PR

The fur is flying at the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show, when the city’s favorite vintage fashion shopping event returns to the Metropolitan Pavilion - Oct. 21 & 22, 2011.

“The elegance and sophistication of fur has definitely captured the eye of today’s designers, who, by nature are more adventuresome,” says David Ornstein, founder of the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show.  Today, it is the new look of fur – more lightweight and versatile-- that is driving the market.  While traditional full-length furs are still in demand, casual looks have made fur ‘today’s news.’   We haven’t seen this much fur in the fashion picture since the 80s!”

Just how big a trend is it?  Fur is this season’s fashion headliner with all kinds of fur – long, short, faux, real – cropping up on collars, cuffs, sleeves, hems, and decorating everything from hats, gloves, boots to bags.  Designers can’t get enough of it! Donna Karan favored lavish fur collars and wrist-to-elbow cuffs, and Miu Miu made a dramatic statement with wide fur shoulders a la 80s, and an a white fur clutch handbag.  Isabael Marant paired a short fur cat with knee-high boots matching fur, while the Alexander McQueen collection featured an hour glass coat in fur!  Such fun and so glamorous!

“Stressed out consumers are just now beginning to reward themselves with small luxuries,” adds Ornstein.   The good news is that owning a fur need not break the bank. One can wear a touch of fur this fall for under a hundred  (vintage fur-trimmed cashmere sweaters start at $95) or a full-length coat for $250-$2000 (Try finding a new one in this price range!).

The Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show is your first stop’ for all of the season’s hottest looks.  Bring your New York Fall fashion issue or the September Vogue and find vintage versions, at much lower prices.  Vintage fashion allows you the unique ability to redefine yourself – to present yourself to the world in any guise you please.  And remember, when the cold winds start to blow, nothing feels cozier than cuddling up in your beautiful, warm fur.  You’ll be glad you fur…got it!
